Based on our understanding, the potential for real damage typically aligns with a few specific scenarios:

1. Significant Financial Impact on Major Network Participants: If a critical player on the blockchain (such as a major exchange, bridge, or wallet service) were to experience substantial losses or disruptions, it could lead to larger ecosystem issues. In this case, with Phantom as one of the key wallets on the Solana network, any vulnerability or exploit affecting it could ripple through to other applications dependent on Solana. So far, though, we’ve seen no indication of this scale of impact, which is reassuring.

2. Blockchain-Level Failures: When the blockchain itself experiences issues, such as hitting its operational limits or sustaining critical errors (e.g., a block limit error like we saw with Kusama), there’s a direct impact on transaction reliability. This can disrupt user confidence and lead to cascading effects on asset liquidity and utility. Currently, this incident appears isolated to Phantom, rather than the broader Solana network, so the foundational blockchain infrastructure remains stable.

Since we haven’t observed major losses or prolonged downtime, the incident may be a technical hiccup on Phantom’s end, possibly affecting transaction functionality without deeper repercussions. Nonetheless, it’s wise to keep the community updated, as it builds trust and emphasizes our focus on security.

If there was a vulnerability in Phantom’s backend, attackers could potentially gain unauthorized access to wallet data, allowing them to move assets without the users’ permission. This type of exploit could lead to significant asset loss for users, particularly if the vulnerability affected a large number of wallets simultaneously.

We will see in a few hours.

It seems they have fixed the problem, but unfortunately, there is still no information on what happened.
