Ben Armstrong, better known as BitBoy Crypto, was once one of the biggest crypto influencers on YouTube.
At his peak, the BitBoy Crypto brand had more than 1.5 million subscribers and became one of the main retail gateways into crypto during the 2020 and 2021 bull market.
His rise was built on daily market commentary, altcoin calls, interviews, sponsored content and a loud personality that many retail investors trusted.
Armstrong promoted questionable tokens, (you got it) allegedly took large payments for reviews, reportedly up to 40K $, and blurred the line between research, hype and paid promotion. Some reportet also 20K $ promotion packages.
One of the major reputational hits came in 2022, when he sued YouTuber Atozy after Atozy accused him of misleading his audience.
The lawsuit backfired badly. The crypto community rallied behind Atozy, and Armstrong later dropped the case.
HIT Network and BJ Investment Holdings removed Armstrong from the BitBoy Crypto brand, citing alleged substance abuse and emotional, physical and financial harm to the company.
Armstrong denied the allegations, posted a negative drug test, and claimed it was a corporate coup against him.
After that, the old BitBoy Crypto channel was rebranded into Discover Crypto, while Armstrong tried to continue under his own name and later through BitBoy X.
But the downfall did not stop with the brand split.
Armstrong sued former business partners, tried to regain control of the company, asked followers for legal donations, and was later arrested during a livestreamed dispute involving a Lamborghini.
A judge denied his emergency injunction to regain control, after which he began raising money from followers for legal costs.
In 2024, he said he might be leaving crypto livestreams, while also saying he would still upload videos.
That was not the end of the legal chaos either.
In 2025, Armstrong was arrested again in Florida on a fugitive warrant reportedly connected to emails he sent to Georgia Superior Court Judge Kimberly Childs while representing himself in court.
The press later also described another Georgia arrest related to alleged harassing phone calls.
By 2025 and 2026, Armstrong was no longer the dominant crypto media figure he once was.
In 2026, Kevin O’Leary won a defamation judgment against Armstrong for almost 2.83 million $ after Armstrong made false claims about him online.
Armstrong still has a platform, mostly through BitBoy X and social media, but the original BitBoy Crypto brand is gone from his control.
And BitBoy X was never close to the old empire. In 2026, the channel was listed at around 144,000 subscribers, compared with more than 1.5 million on the original channel.
Still big, yes.
But he posted a huge number of videos the year before, and for the last 7 months, there has been complete radio silence.
