Prediction markets are probably what we deserve

At some point the pretending has to stop.

The users decided what this ecosystem would become. Not builders. Not protocols. Not regulators. Users. Capital follows behavior, and behavior made the choice clear years ago.

People did not want safer systems. They wanted faster upside.
They did not want clarity. They wanted plausible deniability.
They did not want education. They wanted signals.

So the market delivered exactly that.

Every time something less speculative appeared, it was ignored. Every time something riskier appeared, liquidity rushed in. The feedback loop was obvious and relentless. Products did not shape demand. Demand shaped products.

That is why it is not surprising that prediction markets are the next stage. They are simply gambling that no longer hides behind roadmaps, whitepapers, or technical theater. They remove the last illusion that we are building anything other than bets.

This is not degeneration. It is refinement.

First we gambled on tokens.
Then on narratives.
Then on attention.
Now we gamble directly on outcomes.

Of course this happened. It could not have ended any other way.

Education is a problem, yes. But not in the way people like to frame it. The ecosystem was not uneducated. It was selectively educated. Just enough knowledge to play. Not enough to refuse the game.

Users learned how to click, sign, leverage, and ape. They did not learn when to stop, why something should not exist, or who benefits when it does. That ignorance was cultivated because it was profitable.

And even when users understood the risks, they stayed. Because understanding does not change incentives. A well informed participant in a casino is still a participant in a casino.

Prediction markets feel intelligent because they flatter the ego. You are not gambling. You are forecasting. You are not speculating. You are expressing an opinion. This is how the system keeps people comfortable while doing the same thing it has always done.

The ecosystem likes to blame builders, influencers, or bad actors. That is convenient. It avoids the harder truth. The crowd rewarded this. The crowd asked for this. The crowd funded this.

So no, this is not shocking.
It is not disappointing.
It is predictable.

Prediction markets are probably what we deserve because they align perfectly with a culture that consistently chose entertainment over responsibility, upside over outcomes, and markets over judgment.

Not the future we were promised and we wanted so badly.
The future we repeatedly clicked yes to.
