It genuinely hurts to see so many people losing substantial amounts of money because yet another Web3 bank, this time BitMart, is allegedly withholding customer funds while still trying to extract additional payments before shutting its doors.

I know what it feels like to worry about every $100 and to calculate every expense because there is no room left for mistakes.

I did not lose my money to scams, hacks or collapsed exchanges. I was a very successful trader.

I made enough to buy my house and finance many other parts of my life. Then a chronic illness and cancer in the wrong moment changed everything and eventually brought me to my knees financially.

That is why I would never wish on anyone the experience of losing everything because of something they could never have planned for.

Not you key not your crypto?

These are not only ideological talking points.

They become brutally real the moment a platform freezes withdrawals and users discover that the balance displayed on a screen was never truly under their control.

Too many people still treat centralised exchanges like regulated banks.

They are not.

Many are either large enough to believe they can operate above consequences, or small enough to disappear when the liabilities become inconvenient.

In both cases, the customer carries the risk while executives, insiders and affiliates have usually protected themselves long before the public understands what is happening.

I know it has become fashionable to attack the EU, especially in crypto.

But once again, the EU is one of the few actually protecting users and customers while forcing companies to provide a minimum level of transparency and accountability.

Any exchange serving European customers that cannot meet MiCA requirements should be treated as an immediate warning sign.

Once withdrawals are blocked, legal rights often mean very little in practice.

You may technically have a claim, but enforcing it across jurisdictions, shell companies and opaque corporate structures can cost more than the amount you are trying to recover.

I would never wish financial loss on anyone, especially not because of centralised incompetence, greed or deliberate deception.

Unfortunately, this is no longer an exceptional event in crypto. It has become part of the business model. The daily one.

Be careful who you trust with your money.

Be equally careful who you trust with your attention, your reputation and your voice.

Remember

Most of this industry was not built to make you rich or fred. It was built to convince you that it might, while someone else becomes rich from your trust.
