🟧 This claim is completely fake.
Vitalik did NOT say “Bitcoin and Ethereum will be broken by 2028.”
He described a long-term theoretical risk, not a countdown to destruction. Turning nuanced cryptography discussions into panic headlines is pure engagement farming.
🟧 Quantum computers cannot break Bitcoin or Ethereum today, not even close.
To break ECDSA you would need roughly:
• about 2 300 logical qubits
• about 10¹² to 10¹³ quantum operations
• with error correction: several million to hundreds of millions of physical qubits
Current reality:
• IBM, Google, IonQ, Alibaba: 100–400 noisy qubits
• error rates far too high
• coherence times far too short
→ We are at least four orders of magnitude below what’s needed.
🟧 The real risks are structural, not science fiction:
• declining miner revenue
• shrinking security budget
• increasing centralisation
• fee markets not strong enough long term
• selfish-mining and strategic attacks becoming more realistic
These are real, measurable issues — not Hollywood quantum doomsday fantasies.

Both ecosystems already have clear upgrade paths:
• lattice-based post-quantum signatures
• STARKs and SNARKs
• strict address-hygiene policies
• taproot-only migration paths
• NIST PQC standards already finalised
→ Migrating to quantum-safe signatures is absolutely possible long before a practical attack exists.

When clueless influencers post fake “BREAKING 2028” headlines, they confuse users, pump their engagement bonuses, and contribute zero to actual security.

• Bitcoin won’t die because of a magic quantum event in 2028.
• Ethereum won’t collapse because of a headline shortcut.
• There is NO machine today capable of breaking ECDSA.
• Even optimistic projections point to decades, not 3 years.
• Both networks can upgrade in time — if the community stays informed instead of feeding on clickbait.
