Security, research and honest information have almost no economic value in crypto because they require the one thing this industry despises more than regulation: sustained attention.
Proper research means reading contracts, tracing wallets, checking permissions, comparing marketing claims with onchain evidence and accepting that the founder you worship, the KOL you quote and the token you married may all be complete fucking garbage.
That is uncomfortable. It takes time. It might even force someone to admit they were wrong.
An airdrop announcement requires nothing. A chart with 3 arrows requires nothing. A paid clown screaming “next 100x” requires nothing. Click, buy, repost, lose money, blame someone else. Perfect product market fit.
In 2024 alone, the FBI recorded 149,686 cryptocurrency related complaints and $9.3 billion in reported losses in the United States. Crypto investment fraud accounted for $5.8 billion, up 47% in a single year.
Those are only REPORTED cases from ONE country. 2024. 2 years ago. Imagine now.
Imagine the global number once you include everyone too embarrassed to admit that an anonymous cartoon account convinced them to send their savings.
And people still talk about the decline of serious security work as though it were some mysterious natural disaster.
What happened to the researchers? Why did the investigators stop helping? Why is nobody warning us?
Blabla.
Because you did not fucking support them.
Most of here do absolutely fuck-all to help this space improve, yet never stop complaining about what it has become.
Users decide who receives money, reach, legitimacy and influence every single fucking day.
Every subscription, referral click, token purchase, retweet, paid group and engagement boost is a vote.
And crypto keeps voting for the same collection of hype merchants, insider mascots, fake founders, rented Lamborghinis and human referral codes.
The account spending days tracing wallets gets 40 likes and 200 messages asking for free help.
The account posting “something big is coming” gets paid $20,000, a token allocation and an advisory title before anyone has even seen the product.
The researcher is expected to provide evidence. The shiller only needs a profile picture, a group chat and enough shamelessness to call a casino “community building.”
Of course entertainment belongs in crypto.
Memes, jokes, games and speculation are part of the culture.
Nobody is asking for a blockchain monastery where everyone reads audit reports in silence.
But the balance is completely fucked when entertainment consumes nearly the entire attention economy while the people doing the difficult, boring, dangerous and legally risky work are treated like unpaid customer support.
They are expected to investigate every token, answer every DM, explain every exploit, verify every accusation, absorb every legal threat, protect their reputation and remain perfectly independent.
For free, naturally.
Maybe someone throws them 3 likes and a “great thread bro” after spending $8,000 on a presale promoted by a man called CryptoWolfAlpha or King Of Crypto69.
Then the wallets gets drained?
Suddenly security matters.
Suddenly everyone wants wallet analysis, transaction tracing, contract review, screenshots, timelines and names.
Suddenly the same information that was too boring yesterday becomes urgent.
The person who ignored 20 warnings now demands a full forensic report before dinner because his fucking frog token collapsed.
And when the researcher cannot solve it immediately, the victim becomes angry at the researcher instead of the people he financed, followed and amplified.
That is the most cynical part of this entire fucking industry.
Information is ignored while it can still prevent the damage. Once the money is gone, everyone develops a passionate interest in facts.
Crypto does not lack warnings, researchers or competent security professionals.
It has an audience that repeatedly rewards the people creating the danger while treating the people documenting it as an unpaid emergency service.
Then it acts shocked when the serious people burn out, leave or finally decide that protecting gamblers from their own decisions is no longer worth the abuse.
You built this incentive system. You fucking funded it.
You amplified it. You keep fucking choosing the circus and then asking why nobody is guarding the exits.
