A trusted validator list is a consensus input, not a list of asset guarantees.

  1. Native and issued assets

The XRP Ledger reaches agreement through its consensus protocol and the validators that servers rely on. This differs from Bitcoin mining. Consensus trust concerns which ledger state is accepted; it does not make an issued asset redeemable or a business trustworthy.

Native and issued assets

XRP is the ledger's native asset. Other assets can represent obligations of issuers. When evaluating an issued asset, identify the issuer and redemption terms, plus any controls attached to that issuance. A familiar currency code alone does not identify the counterparty.

A centralised exchange deposit may require both an address and a destination tag to assign the payment to the right customer. Follow the recipient service's actual instructions. Do not assume that a successful ledger payment proves the service credited the intended account.

Claims that a network is decentralised should explain the validator assumptions and the application being discussed. See different forms of centralisation and stablecoin counterparties.
