OneCoin, 2026: asset recovery is not the same as repaying every victim

The compensation announcement describes recovered assets and a claims process, not a reversal of the original losses.

A dated recovery development

On 13 April 2026, the US Department of Justice announced a OneCoin victim-compensation process funded from forfeited assets. Its announcement described more than $40 million available, against more than $4 billion invested worldwide in the fraudulent scheme. These figures concern different populations and stages; the smaller amount is not a statement that all losses have been recovered.

Eligibility and timing

The FBI's 25 June 2026 notice described petitions for qualifying purchases between 2014 and 2019 that caused net financial losses. It stated a 30 June deadline. That deadline is historical, not an invitation to submit a late claim through an unsolicited intermediary. Any later reopening or change needs a new official notice.

The recovery-scam connection

A real compensation programme gives impersonators a convincing story. Reach claims information through the official agency record rather than a private message promising priority treatment. Do not confuse forfeiture, remission, restitution and bankruptcy distributions; each has its own authority, eligibility rules and payment process.
