The transaction under scrutiny

On 11 June 2025, Senators Elizabeth Warren and Jeff Merkley requested records from MGX and Binance about using World Liberty Financial's USD1 to settle a $2 billion investment. Their letter asked who proposed USD1, which communications involved the Trump family or WLF, and whether incentives influenced the choice. This is a documented congressional inquiry and the senators' criticism, not a judicial finding of bribery.

Follow the economics

A stablecoin issuer can benefit when demand expands the assets backing its tokens. The exact benefit depends on reserve composition, interest rates, custody costs and contractual revenue sharing. The face value of a $2 billion settlement is not $2 billion of profit to an issuer or a family. An annualised yield estimate is also not evidence of an actual distribution.

Chronology is not an agreement

Zhao later received a presidential pardon, as recorded by the DOJ. Placing the investment and pardon in a timeline raises questions worth investigating; it does not prove that one purchased the other. That claim would need evidence of an agreement or exchange of benefits. The wiki retains the question without inventing the missing link.
