Manufactured social proof

Several accounts repeating one campaign are not several independent confirmations.

  1. Examine the origin

Repetition makes a claim familiar. In token markets, familiarity can be mistaken for independent validation when posts, replies, rankings and community activity all trace back to one campaign.

The coordinated-campaign research cited by MASTR documents organised programmes that reward social-media actions. This is evidence that commercial coordination exists. It is not evidence that every active community is fraudulent or that any two accounts sharing a phrase were paid together.

Examine the origin

Look for the first claim, the accounts amplifying it, their disclosed relationships and whether later coverage adds new evidence. Ten articles citing the same press release remain one original assertion. A paid ranking, an issuer announcement and a promoter repeating both should not be counted as three separate reviews.

For a concrete project, preserve timestamps and links. Distinguish synchronised publication from proven compensation. Common enthusiasm, a public launch time or shared news can also explain simultaneous posts.

MASTR's attention-capture essay explains why official amplification adds another layer of apparent legitimacy to this process.
