The @dexscreener “scam indicator” is the fear and greed index for L2 to me.

I use a very simple and slightly depressing metric to gauge how much liquidity is being traded, or rather gambled, on L2 right now.

I call it the Dexscreener scam indicator.

The more scammy Dexscreener boosts you see, the more money is being pushed back and forth, and automatically the more scams are happening at the same time.

Let’s be very clear here. Dexscreener directly and knowingly profits from every scam that gets boosted.

To me the Dexscreener scam indicator exists and works pretty well.

1. The more boosted pairs, obvious rug tokens and meme garbage you see trending, the more capital is being blindly pushed around with zero real price discovery.

2. Dexscreener ranks by volume and liquidity. Scammers know this and design pools and bots specifically to farm visibility through wash trading and artificial LP depth.

3. On chain analytics across L2 ecosystems consistently show that the vast majority of new token volume is short lived churn, not organic market demand.

4. Every boosted scam pool generates traffic, clicks, and attention. Dexscreener benefits directly from this activity because visibility is driven by the very metrics scammers manipulate.

5. This creates a perverse incentive where the worst tokens get the most exposure simply because they generate the most artificial movement and they can boost it. Thanks to Dexscreener.

6. When we criticise CEXs for wash trading and manipulation, pretending Dexscreener is a neutral tool is dishonest. The discovery model itself is gamed by design.

7. Volume is not value. Trending is not legitimacy. Liquidity spikes are often just the smoke from another rug in progress.

The more scammy Dexscreener looks, the more money is being burned on L2.

Again:

When we criticise CEXs, we should not forget that Dexscreener is not any better. The business model is built on scams and fraud. Just like charging hundreds of dollars to change a ticker.

We need answers.

But they are very unlikely to change their highly profitable scam booster model.
