A few important points from today’s #Solana incident, although unfortunately this is not an airdrop, giveaway, memecoin, casino promo, some dumb capitalist extraction scheme, another dumbfuck scammer KOL campaign or any of the other childish garbage that seems to consume 95% of the attention on this chain.

What today exposed is an infrastructure concentration problem.

A large number of validators can look independent on paper while still depending on the same hosting provider, the same ASN, the same datacenter operator or the same upstream routing infrastructure.

That is exactly why the @SolanaFndn introduced limits for its delegation programme of under 25% of network stake per ASN or hosting provider and under 15% per datacenter.

Those limits exist because validator decentralization is not the same thing as infrastructure decentralization.

You can have hundreds of validators and still carry a massive shared failure domain if a meaningful percentage of stake ultimately depends on the same networking stack.

Today’s TeraSwitch incident showed exactly how dangerous that can become when almost 29% of stake disappears from consensus at once.

Infrastructure is only one layer. Client diversity is another.

Firedancer is an important step forward, but a large share of Solana stake still runs through Agave and Jito-Solana, which share the same underlying lineage.

A second independent client only meaningfully reduces systemic risk once enough stake is actually running it.

Solana has made enormous technical progress, but anyone looking at today’s incident and concluding that there is nothing to worry about is ignoring the part that actually matters.

The validator count can look decentralized while the infrastructure underneath it is still dangerously concentrated.
