  1. Preserve the date of the source
  2. Recovery attracts impersonators

MASTR's July 2026 essay discussed the SecondFi wallet incident as an example of users depending on software implementation even when they hold their own recovery phrases. The essay cites the provider's incident communications available at that time. Self-custody still depends on the device, wallet software and signing process behaving correctly.

Preserve the date of the source

The provider page available during this wiki review has been updated and focuses on recovery communication and impersonation. It does not reproduce all the numerical and technical details quoted in the older essay. Those historical details have therefore not been restated here as freshly verified findings.

Recovery attracts impersonators

SecondFi's official guidance warns that team members will not initiate direct messages, ask for a recovery phrase or ask users to transfer funds to an address. A person offering urgent help in a reply thread should not inherit the provider's authority merely by using its name or logo.

The research lesson concerns two dependencies: the software trusted before an incident and the communication trusted afterward. Establish the authentic support route independently. For current case-specific action, consult the provider's latest instructions rather than an archived article. See recovery scams and custody choices.
